Time and Tide waits for No Man

Have to agree with this saying. I started out when the web hosting industry is still in its infancy. There was a huge potential for growth. Working part time while studying , I managed to recruit enough resellers and got enough sales to be promoted to the country manager for the web hosting company I was reselling for.

Time and Tide was not waiting for me, it was going along with me : ) , pushing me forward. Thinking back, it is really a matter of timing. If I am to do this all over again at this time with the maturing of the hosting market, I don't think I can do that. Singapore Web Hosting

Adversity became Strength

I was preparing for my Final Year Project which allows me 24 hours access into the CAD/CAM Centre with rows and rows of empty Sun Ultras. This was not only my project place but also the place where I cut my teeth on hosting, exploring and searching for knowledge as well as learning the technical skills behind hosting. Really Knew Nothing

When I first started, I signed up as a reseller for one of the USA companies. They did not require payment upfront but will pay a onetime commission as well as monthly commissions. I was from an engineering background, the architecture of Internet I do know, but what is hosting. What is virtual hosting versus dedicated hosting. What is sub domain name. I never knew of such when I started selling as a reseller about 10 years ago.

At that time , there was no commercial ISP in Singapore, only a Technet, which were normally used by the universities and research organisation. Netscape is unknown, I do know Gopher.

I was groping about the darkness when I first started. To think of it , really quite funny. It was more of a curosity that I signed up and I never never expected that it would be my career!

Formation of 8 to Infinity

8 to Infinity is formed by me in 1997. We started out as a home based business, with a phone line and a Pentium 100 machine with external modem.

In the start , it wasn't easy at all. We started out by getting reseller packages from USA. We seemed to step on the toes of many, with a lot of rumours, saying we were hosting from home on a 56kbps modem and so on. Rumours saying we were "fly by night" type of hosts. Some were even predicting our demise dates : ). Singapore Web Hosting and Malaysia Web Hosting
